Oat bran is made by removing the inedible hull from whole oats. Next, the soft inner shell and grain is heat-treated, rolled and sifted to make two products: oatmeal (fine) and oat bran (coarse). The oatmeal flakes that you use for porridge also contain a fair amount of bran - but only half the amount of oat bran products.
