What does complexity mean?

by: Annette Rathcke Produktinformation

Each and every plant contains more than 100 active water- and fat-soluble substances (phyto chemicals), and each and every substance has its specific function: some provide colour, others provide taste, smell or consistency. And some provide the defence system of the plant to protect it against disease, vermin and environmental challenges.

Complexity is the interaction between these different substances - a feature that we value at Natur-Drogeriet. Whenever possible, our products are designed with full complexity to ensure that all 'plant power' is included. The many substances work together, enhance and regulate each other in the most effective way possible. Nature has a very finely tuned balance, and we truly believe in the power of preserving this complexity in our products. This is where we differ from other manufacturers.

Extracts are one step removed from Nature - yet we include them in our products. Why?

We include extracts in our products because they ensure a high, stable content of the active substance. It is true, though, that extracts are one step removed from Nature, because you lose substances, depending on the extraction method used.

When, e.g., you make a cup of tea, you use extraction with water - which means that you get only the water-soluble substances in your tea. Using alcohol for extraction will provide only fat-soluble substances. So regardless of medium, some substances will be lost in extraction. And we would like to avoid that.

So when we use extracts, we also take a step back towards Nature by adding the entire plant from which the extract was made. This means that we ensure both a high, stable content of the most well-known active substances and the full complexity of plant substances - plus the synergistic effect.
